The Boss Backup is a backup and restore Windows 95 & 98 program.
It will backup to the same drive, a different partition on
the same drive or a separate hard drive. You may also use
zips and optical drives with some limitations. It is a 32 bit
extremely fast, (up to 125Mb sustained) and efficient way to
backup your entire hard drive or just those important
designated directories, non compressed. It is compatible with
the 32 fat file system. We believe it to be the fasted Backup
program for the PC on the market today! The main reason for
its speed is that after the initial backup, Boss Backup only
backs up changed files. The other reason for it's speed is
that it will only backup directories. Keep in mind that
because you are working to and from hard media, simple one
or two file retrievals may be accomplished through Windows 95
Explorer.

The Boss Backup is totally customizable. You may choose the
directories to be backed up, pick the name of the backup set,
and chose the destination directory. You may also do
incremental backups.

The Boss Backup does all the things other backup systems do
but what makes The Boss Backup system unique is it's restore
capabilities. It is the only product on the market today that
will allow you to return your system to the exact settings
and configurations of your last backup and it does it while
Windows 95 is running in normal or safe mode! It can be done
from a full backup set or just your backed up widows
directory. You no longer will have the fear of ever loosing
your Windows 95 configurations or settings!

Setup

The following is a suggestion from Genesis One Technologies,
Inc. on how to set up your computer to plan for an easy and
fast recovery if you ever have a total failure or corruption
of your main (backed up) drive.

Put a copy ( if you have Windows 95 or 98 installation on CD-ROM)
of your Windows 95 or 98 installation files in a folder called
"Win95" (the directory on the CD is W95). This may be
accomplished by opening explorer, make a new folder on your
D drive and name it "Win95dsk". Then copy the contents of
W95 from your installation CD to the new folder. It is a
good idea to put this directory on another partition or
secondary hard drive in case of failure of the primary drive.
You may choose a different name but it is better that you do
not exceed eight (8) letters.

One of the benefits of making this "installation" directory
is it will speed up (1) the process of any new installation
and (2) adding or deleting any Windows 95 features is also
greatly speeded up.

Next, you must have a Windows 95 startup disk. If you do
not have a Windows 95 startup disk, create one now! Go to
add\remove programs in the Control Panel click on the tab
"startup disk", then create the disk.

If Windows 95 was installed by diskette or you have a computer
that has a system CD ie. Compaq or Gateway etc. ignore the
above procedure.

INSTALLATION

Software:
To install the software simply put the installation diskette
in your floppy drive, select run from the Start button. Type
in A:\setup.exe and click OK, or you may use "add/remove
programs" in your Control Panel and follow the instructions.
The default location for Boss Backup is C:\GenesisOne. You
may change this but in order for the Boss Backup to operate
it must reside on the same partition or drive as you working
Windows 95 directory

We have put a copy of Restore Help file here in case you
cannot access it in Windows 95 due to a disk failure.

Restoring (16 and 32 fat file systems)

There are two types of restoring, "non-critical" and
"critical".

The "non-critical" Restore

One of the important features and the one that makes Boss
Backup unique is a feature called the "non-critical" restore.
It is used primarily to maintain an efficient uncluttered hard
drive, because it removes all of the files that were added
since your last backup.

Here is how it works. The Boss Backup makes an exact copy of
every file on your C drive on the Destination Drive or
designated directory. When it begins to restore, it compares
all files and will copy, add or delete those files and folders
that have changed. All files added by creation, since your
last backup, on your part or files added to your hard drive
by installation of new software, (especially those added to
your windows directory that do not get uninstalled when you
remove programs from your hard drive) get removed.

The restore process may be done in normal mode. Start the Boss
Backup program. Select the Backup set you want to restore.
Once selected (highlighted), click on the Restore button on
the bottom of the screen. A message screen will appear
indicating that the restore is in progress.

Upon completion of the restore sequence, the message screen
will disappear and the main menu will reappear. The restore
sequence is complete. Close the Boss Backup program
and REBOOT!!

The "Critical" Restore

The second type of Restore is the "critical" restore. Follow
this procedure when Windows 95 is corrupted to the point that
it will no longer boot or your C, is gone. It is not usually
not necessary to read the following at this time. A complete
failure is rare and if it does happen to you, this procedure
may be referenced at that time.

In order for The Boss Backup system to backup or restore it
must be run from the Windows 95 desktop (it will also
operate in safe mode). This means that Windows 95 must be
running! If it is not, Windows 95 must be reinstalled.

If you have followed our recommended setup procedure insert
your emergency startup disk. (If you did not follow our setup
procedure install Windows 95 and go to 2).

1) At the a:\, change to d:\ and go to the Win95dsk directory
(d:\cd\win95). Once there type "setup" and begin the
installation procedure. At this point of the procedure,
understand that it is not necessary to choose any settings.
Actually it is faster and easier to choose not to set up
any hardware or software, because the Boss Backup Restore
will return all of your old settings automatically.

2) After you have Windows 95 running you must install the
Boss Backup program from the diskettes. A word of caution
here, when you do the install a new database file,
x1970828bkup.mdb will be put into your GenesisOne
directory with the original default settings, which are:

   Backup Set = FullBackup
   Source Directory=C:
   Destination Directory = D:\Backup

If you are sure that you made a full backup with the
default settings above continue to 3.
If not you must edit or make a new Backup set reflecting
   the location of your backup.

3) Open the Boss Backup program, highlight the FullBackup set
(if appropriate), and click restore. When restore is
finished, reboot. When you reboot to normal mode an error
message will appear indicating there is a registry error
and do you want to restore the previous the previous
registry. Just click yes and reboot. (you may have to
use CTRL-ALT-DEL to reboot the system. Windows 95 will
reboot to normal mode. There may also be an occasion when
you will have to go through this reboot process several
   times.
